Since long I was wondering about questions like who am I? Why I am here? What is the purpose of life? Who are you? What is this body? Etc. etc. I read many books and Spoke to many people. After 10 years of search and analysis, I feel I got the answer to many of my questions. In the process of my analysis I discovered two things. They are 1) Truth of life and 2) Theory of death.
So let us start from scratch.
Who am I?
This is a very difficult question. This is a question for which there is no practical example and also it is impractical to get practical examples. I feel only those having deep faith in god can understand this answer.
Any living being consists of two things they are 1) Body 2) Soul.
Religious books/geeta says that Soul is an independent entity. Let me tell you few properties of soul at its purest form.
Properties of Soul in its purest form:
1) Soul has no body, shape and limitation attached to it. In its purest form soul is spread throughout the universe and is one with god.
2) At its purest form soul has infinite knowledge and it is very happy.
3) Infinite mobility is also a property of soul when it is pure.
4) It has no affection and attachment towards anybody.
5) It has no desire for anything.
What is this body? Why this body?
The soul gets attached with a body when it becomes impure and soul becomes impure when it is associated with any desire. The nature of the desire decides the type of body. The soul having very bad desires take the shape of worms, insects etc. and accordingly their mobility and knowledge is also reduced.
At times we feel that I am a simple person. I don’t have any desire. But it is not true. Every living being has desire. It is only because of desire the soul gets body. For example. Suppose a beautiful girl passes by and we swiftly look at her. We might say that I just looked at her because she is beautiful and I have no desire. But it is not true. We usually look at a beautiful girl because we have desire to get married to a beautiful girl. We are so habituated with our desires that we feel that our activities are natural and we often fail to identify our desires.
The desires of a living being are very strong. It is only because of these desires the soul takes lot of pain such as being locked inside the stomach of a mother for a long time. You can imagine the pain of being locked in a chamber for nine months without movement. It is the reason why living beings don’t want to die. Because in their subconscious mind they know the pain they have taken to get this body to fulfill their desires.
Desire is like cancer it always grows and spreads, so a person who doesn’t try to control his desires may acquire more desires and may take the form of an animal, worm or some form fitting to his desires in the next birth.
How to control desires?
All the atoms and molecules have their own properties. Our body is made of what we eat. Food can be divided into three types 1) Tamasik(meat, alcohol etc.) 2) Rajasik (Spicy, chilly, very sweet food etc. ) 3) Satwik(fruits, Green Veg etc.). Only satwik food gives us the courage to withdraw our senses from wrong desires. It is difficult or impossible to destroy our desires or change our nature/behavior without changing the type of food we are having. This is the first step without which it is not possible to destroy our desires.
I believe that all our problems are because of our desires. The desires shadow the knowledge of the soul and because of ignorance the living being does more mistakes and acquires more desires. We must get rid of all our desires in order to get moksha (liberated from the world of sorrows).
Theory of death:
We have seen that because of the desires the soul gets body so why does it die. Living beings die because of two reasons 1) Because of frustration 2) when the living being loses all its desires and attains Moksha.
Death because of frustration:
Desire is like cancer it always spreads and grows. When the living being becomes old, it finds it difficult to fulfill its desires with its old body. Because of strong desires a time reaches when the old person feels that with the present body he can’t full fill his desires and the soul quits the body, which we call death. After death the soul is reborn again to fulfill its desires.
Death because of losing all desires:
Our body is because of the desires we have. When we get rid of all our desires we don’t need our body anymore. Death may also happen when the person gets rid of all the desires and attains moksha (liberated from all the sorrows and from this world).
